Sleepovers can be a great way to encourage your children to form play relationships outside of school. For teenagers, a sleepover can be an effective way to ease the stresses of school life. Even adults are known to have the occasional slumber party, such as when the guys go away on a camping or fishing trip. In reality, though, we don’t all have the time to plan out a sleepover that will impress your guests and keep them entertained throughout the night. Sleepover activities should generally be fun, lighthearted, and should include everyone. If you’re having trouble thinking of some unique sleepover activities for your guests then take a look at the following nifty ideas!
Host an Auction
An auction is a terrific way to get your guests into the spirit of haggling! Your guests can use monopoly money or play money bought from the toy section at your local store. Now there are two ways that you can gather the items for your auction. You can invite all of your guests to bring gently used items that they don’t want anymore or you can spend $30 at the dollar shop or a local flea market and buy some random—but fun—items. Obviously all of your guests will need to have the same amount of money and you might want to eliminate a guest from future bidding once they have won an item. This way everyone can participate and win something!
Prop Game
Have you ever seen the television show called Whose Line Is It Anyway? In the show they have a game called “props” in which two teams have totally random and funny-looking items that they must use as props. The idea is to use the prop as anything except for what it really is in a skit. Say one group has a traffic cone as one of their props. They could act out a skit in which the traffic cone is a giant ice cream cone or a medieval princess hat. To keep the game a challenge you can limit the skit time to 10 seconds. Try to give each group the same items and see who can come up with the most inventive skits for each prop. If there are any adults over during game time (such as the kids’ parents) then you can use them as the panel of judges.
Outfit Design Competition
A unique idea for your next sleepover is to host an outfit design competition. In order to keep the game fun, there obviously has to be a catch! The catch is that the materials used for the outfit are difficult to handle and even more difficult to wear! Many people have tried using aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or tissue paper, but you can use anything you like! You can even have your guests create an outfit out of wrapping paper, paper towels, toilet paper, or newspaper. You can find plenty of different things to use just lying around—even old sheets or curtains. You can even increase the competition and difficulty level by imposing a time limit and also by making it so that the girls have to model their outfits successfully without pieces falling off or tearing.
Fitness Party
If you and your girl pals have been feeling a little down about weight gained over the holidays or just want to tone up and start eating a healthy diet, then you may consider throwing a fitness party sleepover. A fitness party is a great way to form a support group between trusted friends who can all begin the journey of fitness together. Some activities you could do include creating a workout to target certain areas of the body, discussing meal plans, doing exercise DVDs, taking a walk, and even scheduling a weekly workout get-together. You can also create a variety of tasty and healthy dishes for some guilt-free munching!
