Sleepover Theme - Spa Night

Girls of all ages generally like to feel pretty. We may not always go to great lengths to have perfectly manicured nails and exfoliate our skin daily, but once in a while it's nice to just relax and have some beautifying time. Why not take the idea and turn it into a girly get-together? You can take a traditional sleepover activity like painting each other's nails to a whole new level and encourage all of your guests to indulge in their girly sides! Take a look at a few great "do-it-yourself" ways to beautify one another, all of which can be done while watching a "chick movie," listening to music, or just chatting away.

Homemade Face Scrubs

Face scrubs can do a wonder for one's complexion but it's much more fun when you can concoct your own scrub with friends and apply the mixture together (or make a game of applying the scrub to others' faces)! A homemade face scrub has two basic ingredients: the wet and the exfoliate. Example wet or base ingredients include honey, olive oil, lemon juice, yogurt, and witch hazel. An exfoliate is anything with a bit of texture that you can add to the base ingredient that will help to gently scrub away dirt and dead skin cells from the skin. You can use sugar, blended (dry) oats, cornmeal, coffee grounds, purified sand, and even ground up almonds. You can mix any combination of these ingredients together to create a paste as thick or thin as you like. Encourage your friends to make their own specifically for their skin type. For instance, a person with dry skin might want to use olive oil and sugar, whereas a person with oily skin might want to use yogurt, lemon juice, and oats. Combination skin can benefit from blended yogurt, cucumber, and any rough element like cornmeal or almonds.

Face Masques

There's nothing like blackmail photos of your friends wearing goop all over their faces! Face masques can be so much fun to apply because everyone can feel utterly messy while helping their skin at the same time. Clay face masques can be purchased quite cheaply at your local beauty supply or drug store, but for the added bit of sleepover fun you can have your friends each make their own face masque. Loads of household ingredients can make great masques, like egg whites and yogurt or ground oatmeal, yogurt, and honey.

Hair Treatments

After you've all scrubbed your faces and slapped a bit of goop on your skin, the next logical step would be to address your hair. Hair treatments can be really fun at a sleepover, especially if you're daring enough to let a friend apply the treatment. It can also be really relaxing and de-stressing--like getting your hair washed at the salon. You can make a few different hair treatments ahead of time as they tend to work better after they have had a chance to settle for a few hours. Try these recipes: half a cup of honey mixed with three tablespoons of olive oil. Mix the ingredients well and warm them in the microwave. Apply gently to hair but avoid creating tangles. Let the hair sit for 30 minutes then shampoo the mixture away. You can also make a hair treatment using the following:

1 mashed banana
1 raw egg
3 tablespoons of honey
3 tablespoons of milk or whipping cream
5 tablespoons of oil (preferably olive oil)

Nail Painting

Nail painting is a classic activity for a sleepover, but you might consider taking a jazzy spin on this idea. You can offer your guests false press-on nails, nail stickers, jewels, and stencils to use with various colors of nail polish. If your guests are teens or older and you have a bit of extra money to put towards sleepover activities, you might consider getting acrylic nail kits. You can buy a five-application kit online for around $20 which is cheaper than one trip to the nail salon! Be careful with acrylic kits and be sure to follow the instructions.
